WHO EMRO | UK donates vital supplies to protect frontline health workers from COVID-19 | libya-news

June 1, 2022, Libya – The UK Department of Health and Social Care has donated over 1.2 million pieces of personal protective equipment to Libya to protect frontline health workers from the infection with COVID-19 in the performance of their duties. This on-time delivery includes 406,000 isolation gowns, 100,800 visors, 102,600 goggles, 63,000 aprons and 560,000 pairs of gloves.

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed challenges for healthcare facilities and workers around the world, especially frontline healthcare workers who are the foot soldiers in the battle against COVID-19. The situation has been exacerbated in Libya, where the health system has been severely disrupted by nearly a decade of conflict. Nearly 6 million people in the country have only limited access to health services.

The generous donation from the UK Department of Health and Social Care will help protect health workers from illness and allow them to continue to provide essential services to care for their patients.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet. These lifesaving supplies will help tens of thousands of vulnerable patients across the country receive timely and adequate treatment and save lives,” said Ms Elizabeth Hoff, WHO Representative in Libya.
