The government will provide health facilities with state-of-the-art equipment

Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu made the remarks recently when she launched the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme, saying the priority will be to equip lower level health centers with facilities, medicines and other support materials.

“The government has helped to ensure that there was quality care in addition to treatment which has been the priority, we also want to invest in other areas such as equipping health centers and dispensaries” , she said.

Other areas of focus include vaccinating children under five, which she says will help contain deaths and other health issues.

The minister said the ministry is also considering employing more health and environment officers with support tools as they are the ones who meet patients first.

Another ongoing initiative will be to raise public awareness of environmental protection and health through the public communication service, when despite the government’s investment in the sector, people’s behavior and attitude , such as domestic landfills, have weakened the process.

As an implementation of this, the permanent secretary of the ministry recently announced 1650 job opportunities to cover different departments in the sector. Among them are 215 doctors, 155 technicians (medical, laboratories, radiologists).
