Gombe government approves recruitment of 440 health workers

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has approved the recruitment of 440 health workers in the state.

A statement from the Chairman of the Human Resources for Health (Recruitment) Committee, Dr James Madi, who conveyed the Governor’s endorsement on Sunday, confirmed that the 440 staff must be qualified health workers.

The PUNCH reports that some facilities in all 114 wards across the state are short of medical staff.

He revealed that the recruits would be deployed to the various primary health facilities in the 11 local government areas.

Madi said the development is in line with the Yahaya Health Sector Reforms Plan (2019-2023) in the state, adding that it will improve health services in the state.

The statement read in part: “The recruitment is informed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s determination to address the chronic shortage of skilled health workers needed to provide the basic minimum package of health services, particularly at the primary level which is the foundation of the health system. ”

Madi added that the job was in conjunction with Primary Health Care Development and a partner organization, stressing that it would boost delivery to facilities across the state.

“Accordingly, the Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization GAVI,” the statement added.
