New Delhi, October 21 (IANS): Amid controversy and protests from medical associations, the All India Institute of Medical Science on Friday withdrew the SOP issued for the medical treatment of members of parliament at the premier health facility.
In a letter to the Joint Secretary of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, AIIMS said the letter issued should be considered withdrawn. “The letter dated October 17, 2022 on the subject can be considered withdrawn with immediate effect,” reads the letter, signed by Chief Administrative Officer Deo Nath Sah.
According to the order issued by the Director of AIIMS, Dr. M Srinivas, on October 17, duty officers, who are qualified medical professionals from the Department of Hospital Administration, will be required to be available in the ward. round-the-clock control for OPD and emergency consultations and hospitalization of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members. He had also said that all other patients who are referred to AIIMS for consultation or treatment by MPs will also receive appropriate assistance from its Media and Protocol Division.
“The Duty Officer will be the nodal officer responsible for coordinating and facilitating the medical care arrangements required for serving Honorable Members,” the order said adding that those on duty will ensure their hassle-free admission.
